Remember EMPHASIS on your DOG. As lovable as they are, they still are a dog, and not human and as much as you want it to be.
Remember the means and abilities of the modern dog; most dogs have been bred over hundreds of years, and more recently (over the last few decades) for a specific purpose, dogs often need and want this responsibility. Issues can easily develop if positive mental & physical challenges are not implemented enough along with with exercise & affection.
Rainbow Bridge Poem.
This is the beautifully accurate yet imaginative poem written by Anon. It is comforting to all those who have lost a dearly beloved pet, at some stage of their lives.
There is also a dedication to forever young Chelsea, a gorgeous golden collie, who belonged to a good friend of Bruce. Bruce knew her for 14 great years, just as long as her owner did.
"...Chelsea bless her, was like a puppy again when there was some freak snow for a day or two in Spring 2008, bouncing around with the 4-5 other dogs who also had “puppy-like” characters in the snow. It was a good day to remember.
Chelsea was my closest personal experience of Rainbow Bridge and through all the dogs I’ve known and loved, Chelsea will never be forgotten.
My heart will always feel for those pet owners who have had to make that heart breaking & gut wrenching decision to end their pets suffering in order for them to be at peace & wait for them at the Rainbow Bridge.
Let's not forget the mental strength & character of the veterinary surgeon that carries out that duty, they must love animals to make them their life, and they are only human.
To go through that every week and at times with the owners and their emotions too, takes tremendous courage, especially the volunteer staff, may you all receive the respect you deserve..."
says Bruce.

See you at the Bridge.

Rainbow Bridge by Anon.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together
